il loro soggiorno in Nuova Zelanda nell'agosto 2013. La prima parte
dell'email riguarda l'Australia

Melbourne abbiamo lasciato l'Australia e abbiamo volato verso la Nuova Zelanda,
fermandoci per prima cosa a Wellington. Qui abbiamo incontrato Mary e suo marito
Mark! Non rivedevo Mary da quando venne in Italia accompagnando le ragazze maori
nell'ottobre del 2007! Wellington è conosciuta come la città più ventosa
dell'emisfero sud e non ha deluso le aspettative! Mark ha sentenziato che
dovevamo vedere una partita di rugby, per cui ci ha portato a vederne una, anche
se era deluso che non fossimo arrivate un giorno prima per poter assistere a
NZ-AU, che si era tenuta proprio a Wellington! Un giorno siamo andate al Te Papa
Museum, che in maori significa “our place”; ed infatti c'è tutta la storia della
Nuova Zelanda. Ci sono anche tante cose maori, quali canoe, abiti o una
ricostruzione di un marae, la casa per gli incontri! Una mattina mentre
camminavo con Anna lungo il parlamento abbiamo trovato Sherra-Lee che andava a
lavoro: è stato davvero buffo incontrarci!!!
Da Wellington abbiamo preso l'autobus e dopo poco più di due ore e mezzo siamo
arrivate a Feilding, dove vive Rosalyn. Lei sì che è un volto familiare,
l'abbiamo vista per diversi anni di fila in Italia! :) E' stato bello
trascorrere del tempo con lei e suo marito Jim e rievocare tutti i momenti
trascorsi insieme in Italia! Credo che non si dimenticherà mai del viaggio che
facemmo in camper col babbo quando c'erano le ragazze maori! Ahahahah!
Con Rosalyn siamo andate all'Hato Paora College, dove lei ancora insegna e in
cui andavano i ragazzi italiani durante lo scambio. Qui siamo stati accolti
dagli insegnanti, dalla preside (che è cambiata rispetto a quando andai sei anni
fa a fare visita alla Rosalyn durante il mio soggiorno al Turakina Maori Girls'
College) e da tutti gli studenti. Alla fine del loro quotidiano momento di
incontro mattutino hanno intonato una canzone in nostro onore!!!
Rosalyn aveva dei programmi ben precisi per noi per cui subito dopo la visita al
College siamo andate a salutare uno dei suoi figli che abita in una fattoria e
abbiamo addirittura dato da mangiare agli agnellini! Per non parlare del fatto
che ne abbiamo preso in collo uno! Né a me né ad Anna era mai capitato prima!
Siamo anche riuscite ad andare un paio di giorni a Wanganui, la città dove abita
Michelle, la mia host sister neozelandese! Abbiamo trascorso un fantastico
weekend con Michelle e la sua famiglia! Ho rivisto anche i suoi zii e cugini e
abbiamo potuto conoscere il suo bambino che ora ha tre anni! Era molto carino e
prima che andassimo via l'ultimo giorno continuava a ripetere che voleva venire
a casa nostra, nonostante Michelle gli avesse mostrato sul mappamondo dove fosse
casa nostra!
Uno zio di Michelle ci ha anche fatto fare un giro sulla sua barca sul Wanganui
River: è stato molto bello e abbiamo potuto vedere un sacco di Natura
neozelandese sulle sponde! Anche la famiglia di Michelle è stata molto ospitale!
L'ultima tappa del nostro viaggio è stata Auckland, che abbiamo raggiunto col
treno da Palmerston North. Rosalyn ci ha accompagnate a prendere il treno ed ha
aspettato finchè non siamo partite per poter vedere il treno che si allontanava!
Di certo il treno non è stata la scelta più veloce, perché ci sono volute quasi
nove ore di viaggio, però il paesaggio che abbiamo potuto ammirare è stato
notevole! Anche Auckland è una bella città ed ha la fama di cambiare condizioni
meteorologiche molto velocemente. Purtroppo ne abbiamo fatto esperienza! Ahahah!
Un giorno siamo uscite con un bel sole mattutino, ma dopo pranzo ha iniziato a
diluviare a più non posso, per cui siamo state costrette a dotarci di mantelline
con stampati kiwi per poter girare per la città! Da Auckland siamo andate per
una giornata alla Bay of Islands, una zona con tantissime isolette. Qui con un
catamarano siamo andate in cerca di delfini e se ne sono trovati molti! Abbiamo
anche visto il luogo in cui nel 1840 fu firmato il trattato di Waitangi tra
maori ed inglesi! Beh che dire, è stata veramente un'esperienza indimenticabile,
sia per me che per Anna! Abbiamo potuto vedere luoghi lontanissimi, fare
esperienza di culture diverse e incontrare amici! Un grazie è riservato a te
Paolo, che con il tuo impegno hai permesso a tanti studenti del Giotto Ulivi di
partecipare agli scambi! Se non fosse stato per lo scambio che tu avevi
organizzato con AU e NZ nel 2007 non sarei mai andata laggiù e non avrei mai
conosciuto quelle fantastiche persone!

Highway All looked spectacular Anna even had a
colourful parrot pose on her head!
They arrived with Mary and Mark Dinsdale in
Wellington, NZ, yesterday 24th August 2013
and will enjoy all the sights that the Capital City of New Zealand has to
offer.
They will arrive by bus in Feilding on
Thursday 29th August, 2013 at 6pm.
Friday they stay with
Jim and me & they will attend Chapel at Hato Paora College and
meet Staff and students, including Fr Chris
Martin who visited you last year.
l will take them out to Waituna West to view our
farm in Spring.
Christopher and Julianne and children will show
them their pet lambs and walk them
around some of the 500 acres of farm land where
they can see cattle, sheep and native
bush near the Waituna Stream.
I will drive them further on to view the
panorama of the
mountains on the central plateau. We will return
to visit the Friday Feilding Market, which
Prince Charles and Camilla, from England,
visited last year.
On Saturday morning,
Michelle Paranihi who was an exchange student to Giotto Ulivi in 2007
will collect them and takethe girls back to her
home in Whanganui where the Maori family
will make them welcome. and show them the lovely
City of Whanganui, on a river, near the coast.
Very pretty in Spring.
The girls will return to Feilding on
Sunday evening and attend a Dinner Party
in our home.Ian Smith, Chris and Maree Morgan,
Alec and Sandra Smeaton, Hona Black
and Jason Tahi who were exchange students to
your school in 2005 and 2006, plus others
will meet with them.
On Monday I will take
them to see the sights of Palmerton North.
On Tuesday morning they
will catch the Daylight Train to Auckland. They will be
able to view all the central countryside and
Mount Ruapehu as they travel through the
middle of New Zealand. They arrive in Auckland
at 6pm and stay in central Auckland
on their own at a place called "Econolodge" near
the Sky Tower, and Airport Shuttle Depot.
They can chose to take sight seeing trips from
here, on there own. I have suggested a
day trip to the Bay of Island where they can go
by boat to the Hole in the Rock and see
"Waitangi" where the Treaty with the Maoris was
signed in 1840. They return to Italy
the following weekend.
