Friday morning. We got up very
early, had breakfast and went to school with
our Italian partners. We met other
people from our group there. Around 8.00 our coach
arrived. The trip to Siena started. We were in the place
before 11.00.
It was very hot so we took off our jackets. Siena is
an old gothic city with lots of monuments and museums, but its greatest
attraction is the main square – Piazza del Campo. It is divided into 9 triangles
representing parts of the city that make
a shell and they are not horizontal
but slope down to Palazzo
Publico – the City Hall. In the middle ages it was an
arena of horse races. Once a year, usually in June, there is a dangerous horse
race going on in that square
called The Palio - this reminds of those medieval times.
We had a free time there, so we were lying on the
ground and sunbathing for a while. Then, we saw the rest of the town. There are
lots of narrow streets going up and down, and lots of old buildings. We were
walking through the town in small groups. Our group
wanted to have a little rest so we bought something to eat and sat
by a monument.
Then, we all had to get on our coach. The next point
of our trip was a little town near Siena called Santa Gimignano. This is a nice
town dating from the middle ages, with interesting buildings and a great view
over the fields and nearest villages.
We spent there the rest of the time and in the evening we
came back home.
It was another interesting day of our stay in Italy.
